About
Goldfish are a popular ornamental fish in Japan. They have a long history in the country, dating back to the Edo period (1603-1867). During this time, goldfish were often placed in glass spheres called "goldfish balls" and hung under the eaves of houses to be enjoyed. They were also used as subjects for ukiyoe and other types of Japanese artwork.
